The Chicken Relocation Program: A Children's Story

Today was spent running errands and searching for the lost chicken.  After speaking with my neighbor and my husband it was decided she was sitting on an egg or maybe two.  I spent a solid hour walking the property in the wrong shoes.  I had ants, dirt, and sticker burrs in my shoes.  I was longing for my rain boots although I refused to take a detour from finding Fluffy Bunny, the missing chicken.

I think this story is better told in storybook fashion.  See photos below with captions serving as the story.

Fluffy Bunny is lost.  Mimi
needs to find her.

Mimi walks down the road.  Maybe
Fluffy Bunny crossed the road.
Mimi looked in the trees.
Mimi looked high.
Mimi looked low.
Mimi asked the chickens,
"Have you girls seen Fluffy Bunny?"  The
chickens were too busy to talk to Mimi.

Over at the chicken coop, Mimi asked S'more the Rooster, "Have you seen Fluffy Bunny?
All he had to say was, "Cockadoodledooooo!"
Maybe Napoleon knows where
Fluffy Bunny is hiding.  He
did not even say a peep.
Mimi walked a little further until she saw Fluff and Puff.
All they had to say was, "Tweet tweetle tweet!"
Mimi walked over to the pond.
First she asked Mr. Frog, but he jumped
in the water.

Mimi found three scuba divers in the pond.  They said
"We only see fish!!"

"Hello Scratchy and Marsha!  Have you seen Fluffy Bunny?"
Mimi asked. "Meow." they said.  That must mean "No."
Mimi even asked Charles, Pip and Augusta Belle.  They did not even lift their heads, they just kept eating.

Eating?  Mimi thought maybe the chicken might be in her garden
eating her vegetables .  No Fluffy Bunny.

There is only one place left to check.  The wood pile.
Mimi looked and looked and looked at the wood pile.
Mimi looked and looked and looked at the wood pile again.
At the very bottom in the center of the wood pile Mimi found
Fluffy Bunny.
She is sitting on eggs.  There is not one egg or even two eggs.
Can you count how many eggs are under Fluffy Bunny?
Mimi took the eggs out to make sure they were all
growing up to be baby chickens.  She checked
one egg, two eggs, three eggs, four, five, six, seven, all the way to
twenty-one eggs.  All of them had babies inside.
Mimi collected the chicken and relocated
her to a new and safe location.  Now
raccoons and other animals
cannot get Fluffy Bunny.

It is time for Mimi to go to sleep.  Fluffy Bunny and her
babies are safe.  Goodnight.
