Post crowning Miss Connecticut 1997 |
I am going to give you a bit of background this evening. Some of you know all about my "checkered" past, so this might be boring. Others of you will feel very sorry for my husband next week and might volunteer to bring him dinner or even call to ask him if he needs help. In June of 1997, I was crowned Miss Connecticut. In September of the same year I went to Atlantic City to compete for the title of Miss America 1998. There were 51 of us competing for the title. We spent two weeks together. These two weeks would change me. I met 50 amazing women. I know that sounds cliche, but these women accomplished more in their twenty-something years of life than most women will accomplish in their entire lives. Today, fifteen years later, I am still amazed at their talents and accomplishments. Oddly, their accolades are the least of their greatness. Their kindness and humility are actually what sets them apart.

prior to interview |
On Tuesday, I leave to Las Vegas to join a bunch of the ladies I shared the stage with in Atlantic City as we cheer on the new generation of Miss contestants. We will be celebrating fifteen years since our special moment in the spotlight and many of us have not seen each other since the day we packed up to leave Atlantic City in September of 1997. I will be in Las Vegas until Sunday the 13th. My husband will be doing children and farm duty. I am a little nervous. Often times when I travel I return to new animals, dead animals, or dying animals. It is never his fault, it just happens to occur in my absence.

Opening number |
For the next week I will be reporting "on location" in Las Vegas. In addition to being my first time to return to the pageant since I competed, it will be my first time to Vegas. I am planning on sleeping late and having fun with my "sisters." To get you in the Miss America mood,
CLICK HERE to see the opening number from Miss America 1998. See the photo to the right and see if you can spot me in the video. I am the first of two people coming over the staircase. Standing next to me is Miss Delaware, Alison Catherine White.
I am thankful for the opportunity to return to Miss America (Day39). This will likely be a very pageanty week of posts, but I can promise at least one post about Las Vegas and about the airport. I expect to have adventures in both places. Goodnight Friends.
