A Trophy Kind of Day
I was designated driver for a group of teenagers as we ventured to our school sponsored bowling trip. I took the time to give them "driving lessons." For those of you who have ever been in the car with me, I really should NEVER be a driving instructor. Sadly, my children spend most of their time with me and therefore will be incredible drivers. By incredible I mean incredibly good at moving through tiny spaces and taking a corner on two wheels. The reason my husband bought me a Yukon XL was to keep my driving safe-ish and to keep me on four wheels. Lesson number one was DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE, EVER!! Lesson number two was ALWAYS WATCH THE CARS AROUND YOU, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN SOMEONE ELSE IS TEXTING AND DRIVING AND YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN REACT QUICKLY. IF YOU ARE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS YOU WILL ALWAYS KNOW WHAT THE OTHER PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DO....WELL MOSTLY!! Lesson number three and the least favorite was YOU MUST ALWAYS STOP AT THE FOUR WAY STOP EVEN IF THERE ARE NO OTHER CARS OR EVERYONE ELSE IS STOPPED.
On our way to the bowling alley, we stopped at Krispy Kreme so the kids could get doughnuts and so I could buy some for my family. I also promised to bring a doughnut to a teacher who was unable to attend the bowling party. The woman at the drive thru window was a gem! She was helpful and accommodating and extremely polite. She wished us a Merry Christmas and a blessed day as she smiled and we drove away.
Bowling was fun! I scored decently, but was beat by another mom. She is a woman I've mentioned in my blog before. She looks like a mature catalog model. She is tall, thin and attractive with a great smile and apparently a killer bowling game. She is fiercely competitive and I thoroughly enjoy her company and her creative mind. We were able to discuss plans for our year end field day where we usually dominate both the athletic competition and the entrance! "This year will be no different!!" I said humbly. I sure am glad she is on my team and what a great mom to have as a role model.
After bowling we return to Krispy Kreme for a doughnut for the road! Every teenager needs some extra sugar for the drive back to school. The new drive thru window attendant is nice and her name is Samantha. The girls in my car are very excited about returning to Krispy Kreme and they think it is a fantastic idea to film my entire interaction from ordering to pick up. I will let you know if it hits the internet.
I dropped the students off at school and drove through the carpool line just in time before they called for "all remaining students." As I started through the carpool line I spotted the teacher whom I promised the doughnut. My doughnut delivery was met with a smile. I love smiles. I picked up the kids and headed home to show Brett my loot!
I think today was a good day. Doughnuts, d'bowling, doughnuts, driving lessons, and d'smiles(just give me the alliteration PLEASE!). I am so thankful for the happiness a smile shares. Both the giver and the receiver are blessed by it(Day 12). Goodnight Friends.
